Free AI girlfriend apps, ranked by what free includes
We ranked on one question: how much can you do on a free account before the app asks for money? Adult-only platforms are marked 18+. Swipey AI is our own product, so its row is limited to what the pricing page states and nothing more.
| # | Platform | What free includes | Where free stops | Paid tier |

| 2 | Character.AI | Unlimited SFW chat with a very large character library | Content filters; faster responses and extras are paid | Paid tier |

Why the Swipey AI free tier ranks first for adults
Two reasons. The free tier is permanent and spelled out on the pricing page rather than hidden behind a countdown trial: create your AI, basic chat with platform characters, the TikTok-style Feed, the gallery, limited image generation. And hearts, the currency that unlocks extras, can be earned through daily and permanent quests, the 7-day streak, the daily spin and relationship milestones, so an active free user keeps getting more without paying.
The limit is written on the same page. Voice calls and voice messages, video scenes up to 60 seconds, unlimited character-consistent images and progression through the ten relationship levels are Premium. Free still gives you a look at things no rival free tier has: the Feed, Verified Creator Model profiles, Short Drama first episodes, and one full Swipey Live Fantasy Duel even before you register. Our free vs Premium table has every line.
If you want SFW and free
Character.AI and Replika are the picks. Both are generous with free text chat, and neither is built for adult content. Swipey is 18+ by design and says so on every page, with full age verification in some regions before the app opens.
If you want an AI girlfriend free trial with media
Candy AI and DreamGF let you sample pictures quickly but move you to token packs soon after. That is fine for a look; set a budget before you buy anything. On Swipey the equivalent sample is a free account's limited image generation plus the welcome photo your character sends when you first chat, and the ranking above reflects that you never have to leave the free tier to keep chatting.
New to all of this? The five-step start guide gets you from sign-up to first message in about five minutes, and the first-week plan shows how far the free tier goes if you play it properly.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI girlfriend app is free forever?
Swipey AI's free tier is permanent: create your own AI, basic chat with platform characters, browse the Feed and gallery, and generate a limited number of images, with hearts earnable through quests and streaks. Character.AI and Replika also have permanent free tiers for SFW text chat. Candy AI and DreamGF offer trials rather than a lasting free tier.
Can I get an AI girlfriend for free with no sign-up?
Partly. Some no-signup chat tools exist, but without an account they cannot keep memory, a consistent character or any generated media between visits. Swipey requires only an email, Google login or a magic link and never asks for a card, which is the lightest route that keeps memory. Our no sign-up guide covers the trade-off.
Is free Swipey worth using?
Yes, for text chat and discovery. Create her, chat with platform characters, complete quests to earn hearts, keep the 7-day streak, browse the Feed and open Verified Creator Model profiles, all without paying. Upgrade to Premium at $7.99 a month only if you want voice, 60-second video scenes, unlimited images or the relationship levels.
